Be the Voice of Your District
Serve on the Nominating Committee
September 2025
At the heart of our Cooperative is a simple truth: our members are the driving force behind everything we do. Your voice, your participation, and your leadership are what make this Cooperative strong. One of the most important ways members can get involved is by serving on their district’s Nominating Committee.
Why It Matters
The Cooperative is guided by a Board of Directors, with director representation in each district in our service area. Next year, the terms of four current directors will be expiring, which means members in Districts I, II, III, and V-East will vote to elect their representatives. Before those elections take place, each district’s Nominating Committee plays a key role in helping to identify potential candidates for the Board of Directors.
The Nominating Committee ensures that capable, committed, and qualified members are considered for leadership. The committee’s role is to connect with other members, encourage interest in serving, and submit those interested, qualified individuals to the Board. It is an opportunity to be part of shaping the future of BEK Communications Cooperative.
How Members Are Selected
Each director in a district appoints a member to serve on the Nominating Committee. These individuals must meet certain qualifications to ensure they represent their district fairly and responsibly. Those qualifications are:
- Be an active member in good standing of the Cooperative
- Reside in the district from which he or she is appointed
- Not be employed by, or financially tied to, a competing communications or technology business (except a cooperative non-profit furthering rural communication)
- Believe in the mission of cooperatives and their role in serving rural America
- Be willing to spend the time engaging other members to identify candidates
- Have no criminal record
Be able to communicate effectively with people
Your Role in Shaping the Future
